Katey Sagal
An extremely gifted, versatile performer
adept in both drama and comedy as well as singing and acting, Katey Sagal
became a household name in the late 1980s when she played the stunningly bold
unassuming Peg Bundy in the long-running Fox show Married... with Children
(1987). She received two American Comedy Award nominations and three Golden
Globes over its lengthy run. Peg Bundy was a well-known and popular character,
however Katey continued to play her part when the show ended. She starred in
several sitcoms and portrayed characters who were different to the raunchy
character that earned her national recognition. On Sons of Anarchy (2008), she
played the role as Gemma Teller Morrow. This was the Matriarch of a Hell's
Angels-like California biker group. She was awarded a Golden Globe Award 2011
for her performance. Catherine Louise Sagal was a child of Sara Zwilling, a
director and singer, as well as Boris Sagal - renowned television and film
directors. At age 5, she began performing in Los Angeles. She also trained in
voice and acting at the California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, California.
While working as a waitress, she began singing in the group "The Group
With No Name" and later was able to break into Gene Simmons' 1970s rock
group KISS. She also worked as a backing singer for recordings by Simmons and
other famous celebrities, including Bob Dylan (Olivia Newton-John), Etta James,
and Tanya Tucker. She also was a dynamic performer live alongside diva Bette
Midler as one of her "Harlettes" in Bette's extravagant stage shows
in the latter part of the 1970s and into the in the early 1980s.
