Smollett was also in the film with Forest Whitaker as well as Denzel Washington's co-director for the drama The Great Debaters. The film received rave reviews and was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture. Jurnee, who was the main character in the film, was awarded the NAACP Image Award as Outstanding Leading actress. She was also in the Tyler Perry film Temptation which was Perry's highest grossing box office hit beyond his Madea brand. Other film credits include the independent feature, One Last Thing alongside Wendell Pierce, Hands Of Stone featuring Robert DeNiro and Edgar Ramirez Roll Bounce, Gridiron Gang, and Beautiful Joe.
